RAMAKRISHNA MATH, PURNEA

Ramakrishna Math Purnea came into existence by the merger of Ramakrishna Ashrama Purnea in to The Ramakrishna Math Belur on 14-01-2020.

Ramakrishna Ashrama Purnea was started in 1927 by Swami Mahadevanandaji Maharaj (a disciple of Holy Mother Sri Sarada Devi) who was helped by Swami Anupamanandaji Maharaj (a disciple of Srimat Swami Shivanandaji Maharaj) from very beginning who were running the Ashrama on their own with the help of devotees in same pattern of the Belur Math.

The first Basanti Durga Puja was performed by Revered Rammoy Maharaj (Swami Gourishwaranandaji Maharaj) and Swami Gadadharanandaji Maharaj (a disciple of Mahapurush ji Maharaj) was the Tantradharaka there who were Sannyasins of the Ramakrishna Order. Swami Vijayanandaji Maharaj (an independent monk, an initiated disciple of Srimat Swami Vishuddhanandaji Maharaj) was the secretary of the Ramakrishna Ashrama at the end. He wrote repeated letters to Belur Math Authorities to take over the Ashrama with the Belur Math. Finally, Ramakrishna Ashrama Purnea’s accounts were handed over to Ramakrishna Math Belur on 09-11-2019 and the formal inauguration of Ramakrishna Math Purnea was held on 14-01-2020 in a big public meeting

BRIEF HISTORY OF PURNEA

Purnea was a part of Mithila region in the Vedic period ruled by Videhas. The city Purnea is named after the name of Puran Devi (Divine Mother in the deep forest Sanskrit name Sri Sri Purneshwari Devi ) whose temple is around 600 years old.  The legendary goes that a saint Hathi Nath Baba did tapasya on the bank of Saura river for more than 150 years. One day the Divine Mother appeared in dream and told Hathi Baba that Her image was laying in the nearby Pond and he should make a temple for Her and do Puja. He installed and started Her worship.

PRESENT NEED OF THE CENTRE

It has been observed that except Sri Ramakrishna Temple all other structures have become too old. Repair and maintenance of all these are simply wastage of time and money. However, the Basanti Durga Puja Mandap has its heritage importance. From more than 80 years back this Puja is being performed in this Mandap, hence it has to be restored and renovated and kept as it was in the past. Keeping all these in view Existing Site Plan and Proposed Master Plan were made and sent to the headquarters for approval. The same Master Plan was approved. Based on that we have prepared an appeal to reach all of you.
